Greenpeace, the organisation which pushes for an environmentally safer world is staging a protest in front of a textile chemical plant which uses chlorine gas in its manufacturing process and in case of an accident has the potential to wreck havoc on the nearby community.
Greenpeace is trying to push through legislation in the US Congress, which would require chemical plants to adopt environmentally friendly and safer manufacturing process, as and when it's economically feasible.
If the legislation passes through US Congress, it could enforce safer technologies in many plants around the country. A spokesperson for the National Association of Manufacturers termed the bill "regulatory overkill".
