The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was estimated at 8.5 per cent during the month—a decrease of 0.5 percentage point month on month (MoM); it was estimated 7 per cent for men, and 11.3 per cent for women.
The number of employed persons in the country increased by 246,000 to 31.835 million in October compared to the previous month. The employment rate was 48.5 per cent—an increase of 0.3 percentage point MoM; it was 65.8 per cent for men, and 31.6 per cent for women.
The number of persons in the labour force was 34.796 million—a rise of 83,000 in October over the September figure. The labour force participation rate was 53.1 per cent—an increase of 0.1 percentage point; it was 70.8 per cent for men, and 35.7 per cent for women.
The youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 16.3 per cent—a fall of 0.4 percentage point compared to the previous month; it was 13.8 per cent for men, and 21 per cent for women.
Seasonally- and calendar-adjusted average weekly actual working hours of persons at work during the month was 44 hours—a decrease of 0.2 hours compared to the previous month.
