Turkey enters top 20 economies list around the world

Turkish Government reported that the country has obtained a place in the 20 largest economies around the globe with a gross national product (GNP) of nearly $300bn.

Turkey projects 53 percent boost in trade exchanges with UAE, on which the country depends for its exports to the Middle East region.

Harun Kaçak, Turkey's commercial attaché to the UAE explained that they estimated total trade between Turkey and the UAE will increase from $1.3bn in 2004 to $2bn in 2005, which shows rise of more than 50% in just one year.

'These figures are credited to the higher demands in the region for Turkish construction, machinery, furniture and textile goods,' added Koçak.

Tuncer Kayalar, addressing to official conference for 'Made in Turkey' said that the government's first ever trade fair in the UAE opening in Dubai on Saturday. Turkey's undersecretariat of foreign trade, explained how his country's globalisation strategy has led to substantial economic growth.

However the EU retains the largest market for Turkish exports, which accounted 55 percent in 2004, exports to these neighboring countries, which include some Middle East nations, have increased by around 40% to over $20 billion (dhs73.2 billion), representing a 35% share overall.

Several Turkish companies are expected to participate at 'Made in Turkey' to be held at Dubai from 4-6 June 2, 2005. Exhibitors will be from various fields such as construction, fashion and machinery industries all looking to strike up new business deals with companies in the region.
