The second German textile technology symposium in Vietnam opened in Ho Chi Minh City. During this two day event, initiated by the VDMA Textile Machinery Association and supported by the German government, leading German textile machinery manufacturers will report in lectures about their latest developments and technological innovations and discuss new opportunities with local textile operators.

With this second symposium in Vietnam the VDMA Textile Machinery Association is indicating its commitment to the growing Vietnamese market.

“Since our first symposium in Vietnam back in 2004, the economy here had to meet severe challenges”, explained Thomas Waldmann, Managing Director of the VDMA Textile machinery Association at the opening ceremony of the symposium in Ho Chi Minh City.

“Having entered the WTO in 2006, Vietnam faces a schedule of deregulation and market opening measures that affects the whole industry, including the textile sector. The end of the international textile quota system in 2005 also forced the Vietnamese producers to increase their competiveness, especially regarding neighbouring China.

One way to become and to remain competitive is by sure to invest in modern textile machinery. We are glad that textile technology 'Made in Germany' is preferred by many Vietnamese companies in their efforts to respond to evolving market requirements”, Waldmann summarised.

During the first six months of 2007 the exports of Germantextile technology to Vietnam reached a value of 14,519 million Euro which was an increase of over 60 percent compared to the respective period in 2006.

On the top of the purchase list of the Vietnamese textile industry were spinning machinery with exports worth 7,066 million Euro, followed by knitting, hosiery and similar machinery (6,707 million Euro) and finishing machinery (746 thousand Euro).
