Egyptian Cotton Exhibition to garner $3mn worth business

Commercial contracts during the three days of the Egyptian Cotton Exhibition, which took place last week, at the Arab Chamber Space, in São Paulo - southeastern Brazil, may generate business of between US$ 2.5 million and US$ 3 million in the next 12 months, according to Abdel Wahab Mansur, a director at Lotas Comércio Exterior, which represents various Egyptian suppliers. "I believe that the result was very satisfactory," he said.

According to Mansur, of the 20 companies that sent representatives, 90% should close deals. "The right importers came," he said. Among the companies that participated are Zêlo, Cinerama, Dohler, Sancris, Selene and Toyobo.

"Many came from outside São Paulo," added Mansur. Representatives of other organizations, like the National Service of Industrial Education (Senai) and the Brazilian Clothing Association (Abravest) also showed up. Products in the entire productive chain were shown, among them cotton lint, thread, fabric and garments. The director of Lotas wants to repeat the show next year.

According to the Egyptian commercial consul in São Paulo, Mohamed Bakri Agami, it is necessary to continue promoting Egyptian products in Brazil. "Not just cotton, but also furniture, software, petrochemical products, fertilizers, among others," he said. The show was promoted by the Arab country's commercial office in São Paulo.

To the secretary general of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Michel Alaby, the result was very positive. "It is also our objective to help Egyptian exporters," he said. In future events, however, he hopes for the physical presence of more Egyptian exporters for face-to-face contact with Brazilian businessmen.
