Milliken & Co has decided to shut down its Kingstree textile plant by middle next year, severing 48 jobs. This factory manufactures polyester-nylon fabrics used to make jacket shells and other garments.
The 50 year old Kingstree plant makes up two percent of employment in Williamsburg County, which is suffering from redundancy since long. County witnessed 9.1 percent joblessness in October 2006.
Kingstree employed about 100 people one and a half year back, but succumbed due to cheap and unmitigated influx of Chinese textiles and apparels.
