DAK Americas announced that it has completed the current expansion of its PET resin business with its newest production unit at the Cape Fear Site near Wilmington, N.C. The new plant adds a capacity of 450 million pounds, bringing DAK Americas' total U.S. PET resin production capacity to more than 1.1 billion pounds annually.
The world scale polyethylene terephthalate (PET) container resins facility utilizes a new Melt-Tek process, a proprietary PET manufacturing process developed by DAK Americas, which incorporates technologies from Udhe Inventa Fischer. Delivering trade-leading product attributes and performance, the integrated technology offers advantages in investment and conversion costs.
“The new Melt-Tek process will enable product innovation, critical for increased penetration of PET resins into new applications,” said Tom Sherlock, Senior Business Director-Resins, DAK Americas. “This exciting development further demonstrates DAK's ever-growing commitment to our customer partnerships and the continued growth of the PET packaging industry.”
DAK's new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant represents the first commercial use of Melt-Tek in the world. This technology does not require traditional solid state processing and delivers improved product processability through lower temperatures and shorter cycle times. These improvements will be a true value-added benefit to PET processors and converters. Additional benefits include increased uniformity of product properties through newly engineered processes.
