North Carolina based home furnishing and improvement Company Lowe's announced the company and its vendors are providing $2 million in grants to the National Trust for Historic Preservation and The Nature Conservancy.
The grants, $1 million for each organization, will be used in 2006 to preserve places of historic significance and protect natural resources.
The donations are the result of a Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation fund-raising event, and are expected to have significant local impact. Projects were identified as vital to their communities by the National Trust and The Nature Conservancy, and are located primarily in the Northeastern U.S.
"With the support and generosity of our vendors, Lowe's is proud to support two organizations leading efforts aligned with our mission of improving the places where customers, employees and families live, work and play," said Larry D. Stone, Chairman of the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation.
"Focusing on priority projects of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Nature Conservancy enables us to make dramatic and long-lasting improvements to these communities."
Projects include land preservation, waterway cleanup and restoration of several of the region's historic public buildings. For more than six years, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has benefited from the sale of American Tradition paint in Lowe's stores, which has helped to fund more than 1,000 restoration projects across the country.
