Despite several rounds of trade talks between the visiting US Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez and Trade Representative Rob Portman with high-ranking Chinese officials, solution seems out of reach.
The US officials met Vice-Premier Wu Yi in Beijing on Saturday, who called the textile disputes a "major problem.”
Yi said, "The restrictions initiated by the US Government have imposed a severe impact on China's textile production. They also hurt the industry and the public's confidence of the multilateral trade system."
Wu has been seeking concrete measures from US to guarantee that trade disputes would be resolved amicably.
Meanwhile, US officials have appraised of their country's position on heavy influx of Chinese textile imports that has been harming domestic producers, under valuing of Chinese currency and IPR issues.
