MLA & AWI to deliver reliable genetic information to wool industry

Sheep Genetics Australia (SGA) is a national genetic information and evaluation service for the meat and wool sectors of the sheep industry and has been developed jointly by Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) and Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), together with the Australian sheep industry.
A new advisory committee has been announced to provide strategic direction for the implementation and continued development of Sheep Genetics Australia (SGA).
The new advisory committee has been structured to provide a broad range of industry representation and will have the key role of ensuring that the SGA delivers genetic products and information that meet the current and future requirements of the Australian sheep industry.
Two members of the former committee, sheep breeders Phil Toland (Merino breeder, Victoria) and Rodney Watt (Terminal Sire breeder, NSW) will continue. They will be joined by four new industry stakeholders representing the service provider, sheep breeding and marketing sectors.
They are:
- Andrew Bouffler (White Suffolk and Dual Purpose sheep breeder-NSW)
- Matthew Coddington (Stud Merino Breeder-NSW)
- Craig Wilson (Sheep Classer and Breeding Consultant-NSW)
- Esther Price (Communications and Marketing Consultant-WA)
Independent Chair of the new Advisory Committee is former President of the National Farmers Federation, Ian Donges. Mr Donges says the Committee will operate initially for two years and will assist the Australian sheep industry, MLA and AWI to deliver nationally consistent genetic information to the wool, lamb and sheep meat sectors.
