S.H. Raza had earlier done it for Satya Paul, transposing his paintings on a range of scarves.

Designer Nisha Singh has repeated it along with Kolkata artists, Avijit Dutta and Sudipto Tiwari to come up with a line of clothing where the artist's paintings are transposed onto fabrics.

The paintings are transposed on various fabrics such as silk, chiffon, crepe and georgette using silk screen printing method.

Some products have been hand painted on screen by the artists and then steamed to make it permanent, explained Singh.

Named Ikaya, the range of skirts, kurtas, saris are comfortable and quite affordable, with prices starting from Rs 1,000.

Salwar-kurta with painting of a woman in yellow-ochre, black and red, and signed Avijit Dutta, is priced at Rs 4390.

The prints created by artists can be easily reproduced but Singh prefers to limit herself to having 7 to 8 pieces from each design to maintain exclusivity.

Tiwari informed that the venture was on an experimental basis and would take time to evolve into a commercial structure, he said speaking at the launch.
