After careful review of clinical and safety data by their medical panel, The Eczema Society of Canada (ESC) has accepted DermaSilk for use by persons with eczema and or sensitive skin conditions. The acceptance is not a direct endorsement, rather, the goal of the Seal of Acceptance (SOA) program is patient empowerment, education and support. The Eczema Society's goal is to work toward bettering the health and quality of life for eczema sufferers.

"We are thrilled to see DermaSilk recognized by an independent scientific review," says Dan Sharp, CEO of Western Allergy Services regarding the Society's Seal of Acceptance. "DermaSilk offers an innovative approach to the treatment of eczema and we are pleased to see it acknowledged as a viable part of the treatment regime by Canada's skin care experts."

DermaSilk is a breakthrough in the treatment of eczema and other forms of atopic dermatitis and shows that what you wear can alter the effect of your eczema treatment.

Scientists involved in treating allergic skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis and eczema have turned their attention to the type of clothing worn by patients and have come up with a modernized fabric which has been shown in clinical trials to offer significant advantages over commonly used clothing. This innovative product range is now available in Canada through Western Allergy Services, a Canadian company with over 35 years of expertise in the treatment of allergic disease.

DermaSilk Therapeutic Clothing offers a patented approach to managing skin conditions for all age groups and for any part of the body. Comprised of a range of light-weight therapeutic clothing made of hypoallergenic medical grade 100% silk fibroin, DermaSilk is also embedded with a special permanent and chemical free antimicrobial protection shield (AEM 5772/5). This antimicrobial fabric is the same one that has been used in operating rooms over the past 30 years.

By combining the properties of knitted pure silk fibroin (softness, high breathing and heat-regulating capacity) and of the antimicrobial shield, DermaSilk helps to restore the barrier function of the skin, altered by flares, irritations and infections associated with atopic dermatitis. Unlike bioactive fabrics containing silver, the bonded antimicrobial protects against a wide range of microbes without releasing chemicals onto the skin.

DermaSilk provides the nearest thing to a second skin for the management of allergic skin conditions.

Atopic dermatitis takes a toll on Canadians

It is estimated that 15-20 percent of Canadians1 suffer from eczema and/or atopic dermatitis. Eczema and/or any other form of atopic dermatitis is a multi-faceted condition, varying in duration, extent and severity amongst patients. Consequently, the delivery of patient care has nearly as many variations as there are eczema patients in Canada. The Eczema Society of Canada recommends the 'Triangle of Control'. This triad combination involves an emphasis on hydration, medication management, and education. DermaSilk offers an additional aid in eczema care.
