Peruvian designer Jorge Luis Salinas opens sixth LIFWeek

Emporium, the youth fashion brand by Peruvian designer Jorge Luis Salinas, opened the sixth edition of the Latin American glitzy fashion soiree LIFWeek with its latest Autumn/Winter 2014 collection.

Decorated with studs, the Philadelphia University graduate’s new shimmering textured pieces included cropped jackets, colourful jeans and polo shirts with bold slogans.

Designer Ani Alvarez Calderon staged a unique catwalk presentation that began with a short film depicting the beginning of the universe. Based on a palette of red, lilac, blue and black, the collection included layered dresses, voluminous skirts and intricately detailed jackets.

Guest designer Kenneth Cole wrapped up the first day of the Peruvian event with a menswear collection, based on different shades of black. Infused with sophisticated modern aesthetics, the American clothing designer’s line featured comfortable vests and practical simple cut pants.

The second day of the Lima soiree kicked off with a fashion-centric conference chaired by the 60-year-old guest designer from New York, Kenneth Cole.

After the conference, new fashion talents Angie Schlegel, Susan Wagner and Talia Berckemeyer opened the catwalk event with their respective fashion parades.

The Argentinean debutante Schlegel opted to showcase alpaca wool made collection, embroidered with pearls and rhinestones, whereas Wagner chose to highlight traditional Peruvian embroidery, created in collaboration with native communities across the country, at the event.

The energy of hard rock music and the softness of romance intermingled at Basement’s brand Rockmance’s new collection. Mixed with masculine silhouettes and feminine colours like pale pink, nude, white and black, the beautiful ensembles were made from lace, silk and fur.
