BekaertDeslee's Purotex bio textile reduces pet allergens

BekaertDeslee has announced that its Purotex bio textile has the ability to reduce cat and dog allergens. Earlier, it was proved that the Purotex cleans up house dust mite allergens with the help of natural probiotics. Sensitivity to house dust mite, cat and dog allergens, found in most beds and mattresses, has a negative impact on sleep quality and comfort.

In order to improve the life of allergy patients, BekaertDeslee created an allergen-reducing mattress fabric. Purotex was real-life tested on several allergy patients who saw their quality of sleep improved and their allergy symptoms considerably reduced.

Purotex uses the technology of active probiotics to clean up house dust mite allergens along with other allergen types. Probiotics are also used in yogurts to guarantee a healthy microflora and in hospitals as cleaning products to prevent resistant bacteria.

“The probiotics are attached to the textiles via the use of microcapsules. The capsules break because of friction and the probiotics start to develop. They colonise the whole mattress in two weeks’ time and will clean up the whole mattress surface,” BekaertDeslee said in a press release. (RR)
