The shortlisted finalists for the 2015 ITMA Future Materials Awards have been announced, and the competition for prizes is stronger than ever after a record number of entries across 17 categories. ITMA is the world’s most established textile and garment machinery exhibition since launching in 1951.

More than 100 nominations were received for this year’s Awards – the technical textiles showcase event which recognises innovation across the industry. Global megabrands such as Adidas and Polartec, as well as start-ups, specialist firms and research labs, have all been selected to the Awards shortlist and will now compete for the top prizes at a grand award ceremony in Milan in November.

The 17 categories for 2015 span the whole industry value chain and its breadth of application areas. Awards include Best Innovations in Protective textiles, Industrial textiles and Medical textiles, as well as Best start-up company, Innovator of the year and Launch of the year.

Two categories where competition is particularly fierce for 2015 are Best Sports Textiles and Best Sustainable Textiles Product with 13 shortlisted entries in each category.

World Textile Information Network (WTiN), an innovative B2B media company at the heart of the global textile industry, launched the ITMA Future Materials Awards to recognise the impressive contribution which individuals and businesses in technical textiles make to innovation across the textiles industry and its many end-use markets.

Following the huge success of the inaugural ITMA Future Materials Awards in 2014, this year the Awards travel to Italy, where they will take place as part of the textiles industry’s showcase event, ITMA Milan.

Cotton Incorporated joins as a new platinum sponsor for 2015, with ITMA maintaining the headline sponsorship.

Commenting on the announcement of the shortlist, WTiN Managing Director Mark Jarvis said: “Once again we have seen the ITMA Future Material Awards capture the imagination of this thriving industry.

“With a record number of entries coming from such a wide range of organisations, businesses and individuals, we are delighted that the Awards will deliver exactly what we hoped for when we launched this event – recognising and celebrating innovation throughout the entire technical textiles value chain,” he said.
