Heavy rain hinders dyeing units

On account of heavy rain in Gujarat, the Textile and Dyeing units are facing acute water problems from the past one week.

Among the many sufferers, Pandesara Industrial Association, a dyeing house, has clogged its operations due to non availability of water.

Official sources reveal, heavy rain with the upstream of Ukai dam adds to the difficulty of treating water, while Surat Municipal Corporation's (SMC) first priority at this critical moment are the people. A regular maintenance of the intake lines of the dam along with a timely check on the level is done.

Further, experts inform that “Company plans to approach SMC, to seek approval for sourcing water directly from the river or the irrigation canal, which is their second alternative. Like generators are alternative for light. Talks with Director of SMC will most probably be on Monday. If the unit gets full quota of water which is required, then there will be no need for direct sourcing of water. On the other hand if they will have to work on the second alternative, then the cost and implementation would be collective efforts as it would be difficult for a single unit to implement it.”

Adding more insiders said that, “SMC can afford to provide water at 3000 turbidity but the inflow of the turbid water currently is 5100, which is abnormally high, resulting in lots of mud and aquatic plant choking their lines. Cleaning of all this is in process with hopes to get water supply again by this evening.”
