Exports of footwear, headgear & umbrellas fall in Oct

Compared to September 2007, the value of exports in current prices in October 2007 increased by 11.1% or 37.5 mln lats, but in comparison with October 2006 it increased by 23.4 % or 71.0 mln lats, reaching 374.2 mln lats, according to Central Statistical Bureau data.
The value of imports in current prices in October 2007 was, in turn, 7.9% or 49.9 mln lats higher than in September 2007, but 12.1% or 73.4 mln lats higher compared to October 2006, reaching 683.2 mln lats.
The total foreign trade turnover in October 2007 was 15.8% or 144.5 mln lats higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year and its value was as high as 1057.4 mln lats.
In October 2007, in comparison with October 2006, the value of the most important commodity in the exports of Latvia – wood and articles of wood, increased by 18.4%. Exports of transport vehicles increased by 63.3%, agriculture and food products - by 40.4%, exports of pulp of wood; paper and paperboard – by 36.6%, plastics and articles thereof – by 26.1%, exports for products of the chemical and allied industries – 23.0%, exports of base metals and articles of base metals- by 19.2%. But the exports of textiles and textile articles have decreased by 11.9%.
In October 2007, in comparison with September 2007 the value of exports of mineral products increased by 35.9%, of transport vehicles – by 34.2%, of plastics and articles thereof – by 22.5%, of base metals and articles of base metals – by 20.1%, of agriculture and food products - by 20.0%, of pulp of wood; paper and paperboard - by 7.0%, of wood and articles of wood – by 5.5%. The exports of footwear, headgear, umbrellas and other articles decreased by 18.7%, machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment – by 18.2%, raw hides, leather, furskins and articles thereof – by 10.9%.
